County Wicklow, also known as the Garden of Ireland, has within its boundaries some of Ireland's most beautiful lands-- Wicklow Mountains National Park, Glendalough and Powers Court. While the west coast of Ireland has a wild, untamed beauty, County Wicklow is the manicured, refined counterpart. Both coasts possess natural beauty, but neither outshines the other. When we planned our Ireland trip, the only portion of East Coast Ireland we talked about, was maybe a day trip to Glendalough. After some additional reading once we arrived in Ireland, we booked a room in County Wicklow for a few nights, and left our house in Ennis early. Spending extra time on the east coast was a good decision as it turned out to be an excellent conclusion to our trip.
I still have trouble putting into words our day in Glendalough and at Powers Court. Everything just fell into place. We did not have specific plans, but we managed to see everything we set out to see. We even had time to stop and enjoy the gardens of Powers Court, and visited Glendalough twice, which enabled me to capture some of my favorite pictures from the trip. Our hosts at the B&B were gracious and kind, the trails and paths we walked were everything we imagined Ireland should be. While we missed home, being in such a graceful and welcoming place made us sad to leave. As Jamie and I sat near the upper lake at Glendalough watching Ethan throw stones into the water, we talked and truly believed that we would have no problem selling everything back home and start our lives over right here in County Wicklow.
