I have a lot of memories of Toronto from when I was in my early teens. My family and I had been there a couple times, and it was my favorite city at that time. I remember my first visit in the early '80s at the height of the new wave/punk rock era because it was the first time I saw real people with Mohawks and leather jackets with chains, and people who dressed like Madonna and Prince and the Flock of Seagulls. As a young girl who idolized the Material Girl, it was the coolest city ever.

Jamie and I went there in 1995 to see Phantom of the Opera, and we had a great time seeing the show, visiting Casa Loma and exploring the city. This time we were taking Ethan. He was only 3, but the idea was to go somewhere easy and ride a train. We drove to Niagara Falls and hopped a train to Toronto. It would have been easier to drive to Toronto but Ethan loves trains. As part of our stay in Toronto, we visited Centreville Island on Lake Ontario. It is a beautiful island with no cars. A ferry shuttled us over, and we spent the day at the little amusement park on the island. We went to the Royal Ontario Museum and stayed downtown. It was a great time in the city.
